Hi! I found your blog because I just got a drosera spatulata and I'm absolutely new at this (and your plants look amazing!) Do you have any recommendations? How much sunlight should it get? And how wet should the medium be? Sorry to ask such basic questions, I just really don't want to mess this one up. Thanks for any help!

JACOBOO Answered:

hey there! thanks for your feedback :). For most carnivorous plants, you should be getting as much direct sunlight during the day as you can as it helps you’r plants produce traps as well as often making them appear much more vibrant in colouration. For my plants, I tend to keep the soil constantly wet using a saucer beneath the pot, which I make a habit of keeping full of water. Also, sunlight is important especially when growing plants which enjoy a wet medium because it stops the growth of fungi that can harm your plant. Oh by the way, sorry for not posting any photos recently. I am having problems with my camera and have also been a little lazy, but a I have a new nepenthes plant which is growing very well which I will post photos of ASAP.

Thanks for the response. I'll keep the cinnamon tip in mind if I ever have more plants to test that out on. As for live sphagnum, I would love to have live sphagnum, but my attempt of starting a colony has failed thrice already. But cooler temps means another try!

JACOBOO Answered:

I agree that sphagnum moss can be tricky to grow. I tend to have difficulty with getting the correct amount of light. My Sphagnum growing in part shade is fairly healthy, but some of my sphagnum which grows in direct sunlight gets sunburnt.
